Windsurfing on the Costa Brava

Windsurfing is one of the joys of Costa Brava - in addition to sailing and diving it is turning to be the most popular water sports. No wonder, for the steady winds and sunny weather of Barcelona offer awesome conditions for windsurfing.

When is the best time to surf?

In Spain, you can surf all year! You'll usually find the best waves between September and April -- but in winter, although the air is still relatively warm, the water is very cold in Spain and it can only be surfed with a wetsuit. Beginners who want to try once to conquer the great waves and enjoy the awesome weather in Spain, summer is probably the best time for a surfing holiday on the Costa Brava.

Where you can surf on the Costa Brava?

You can hardly find a place on Costa Brava where you can't windsurf. Along the coast there are many beautiful beaches to surf in good conditions. They almost all offer the possibility to rent wetsuits and equipment, surfboards and towels, for that forgetful bunch who comes empty handed.

A personal tip: for a nice windsurfing holiday, try Roses. It is a small town on Costa Brava, which I have already mentioned a few weeks ago, where you can spend a delightful family vacation or spend a weekend with friends to go surfing. The beach has a surfboard rental shop, the water in summer is warm, and the beach is usually not too crowded, allowing for carefree windsurfing all afternoon.

Otherwise you can also enjoy an apartment in Girona, a peaceful village near Barcelona with a very convenient airport. Now that I think of it, there will be the World Federation of Windsurfers from the 12th to the 17th of June this year...

To the water!

Extreme Sports in Miami Platja

There is more to Spain than lazily laying on the beach and working on your tan while digesting paella. The best way to make the most out of a family vacation in Costa Dorada is to go extreme.

Extreme sports, that is. Miami Platja is a beautiful beach on the coast of Costa Dorada, beloved by tourists, with an absolutely fabulous beach, about 30 minutes away from Tarragona. The lesser known fact about Miami Platja is that it is one of the centers of extreme sports in Catalonia.

Miami-Aventura offers various kinds of extreme sports, from quads to raids, diving and rock climbing. They cater to clients regardless of their level in each sport, and organize a little ceremony if it is your first time trying it out!

What better way to experience Catalonia than by climbing its mountains?

Miami-Aventura is an experience in itself. Breakfast is offered in the morning, a monitor follows you all day to show you around the mountains and Catalan valleys, and then they lead you to the Miami Lounge bar where you can relax with a cocktail after a long day of adrenaline.

Miami Platja is also home of the Racing Driving Performance! Have you ever wished you could drive like Michael Schumacher? Then book an apartment in Miami Platja in Catalonia and experience the thrilling world of high speed racing first hand!

Take your quad to the rockiest part of the mountain with your family, or discover the depths of the Mediterranean Sea - in any case, it will not be a boring vacation in Spain.

Formula 1 Grand Prix 2012 Vroom Vroom: Get ready for an exciting Formula 1 race!

There is nothing thrilling like being on the racetrack with Formula one cars. It is the premier and fastest class of single-seater auto racing and it is an honor for a racer to be awarded the Formula One World Championship. This year the Formula One season will begin in Bahrain on 11th March with the finale on 25th November in Brazil.

In Spain, you can visit the Formula 1 Grand Prix race at Circuit de Catalunya, located just outside modern Barcelona. Like every year, this year th

e race will also be held in May. Before the final race, the practice and qualification sessions will take place on the 11th and 12th May. On 13th May 2012, Sunday, is going to be the day of the big race. The best part of this event is that it falls on the weekend so one can enjoy the race without worrying about work. Three-day passes are easily available (as long as you buy them before they sell out). The price of the tickets depends where the seat is and what the vantage point of the viewer is. Individuals on a limited budget can purchase the ticket in the pelouse area. This is a grassy area with no official seating so the price is very reasonable. You can view the race on the big screen from this area.

Fans who want the best vantage points should go for the following: North Area ( B,C,G, H and S) and the Grandstand H. Note the tickets for the following seats will be very expensive.

Since the event attracts a huge crowd, food and drinks are available around the edges of the track. You will have a variety of eating options so you don't have to pack any food and drinks with you. However be sure to bring the following item on the racetrack: sunscreen,

sunglasses, ear muffs or ear plugs and a hat. Also wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

This is important because the racetrack is not an enclosed placed. You will be under the sun in the height of the summer so be mentally and physically prepared for the scorching heat. Though many individuals bring their own headphones and ear-muffs, most true Formula one fans have special headphones with built-in radio that allows them to hear the race commentary while blocking the external noise of the Formula One cars.

For more details, you can visit the following website: http://www.formula1.com/

Make sure that you book your tickets as soon as possible because tickets for this event sell like hot cakes. The formula one race takes place throughout the world but seeing the race on the Catalunya Circuit is an unbelievable experience because of the breathtaking racetrack. The event is always well organized so fans don't have to face any disturbance or hassle.

The Fascinating History of FC Barcelona

In 1899, a Swiss businessman named Joan Gamper started the FC Barcelona club, the famous Barça, along with his ten friends. Since birth, Joan Gamper was always passionate about sports and he not only played football but rugby, golf and tennis. His career began from FC Basel where he earned the title of club captain. However soon he moved to France and later moved to Barcelona to visit his uncle.

It was him who put up an advertisement in the local newspaper inviting people interested in football. The response was so good that one month later, he was able to start a football club. He became the first captain of the club while his friend Englishman Gualteri Wild was the first president.

Barcelona-FC-Logo.jpg Many believe that red and blue became a part of FC Barcelona's uniform because Gamper chose them for a match against Spain. His former team FC Basel had the same colors. The club's fame grew because it had talented and passionate players. Soon the club was competing against leading teams like Copa del Rey and Campeonato de Catalunya.
Gamper plays an important role in establishing the club because not only was he the founder but he also made efforts to keep the club firmly established when it was nearly bankrupt. He saved the club and even managed to acquire the club's own stadium.

By winning in 1909, the team managed to move to a bigger stadium called Camp de la Industria. To celebrate the team's success, a logo contest was held the next year. A football player known as Carlos Comamala won the competition and it is his design that is still used with minor variations.

The following four years, FC Barcelona won a prestigious cup four consecutive times. It was around this time the club had changed its official language from Castilian to Catalan. As you may have noted though the club was started by foreigners, the change of language soon changed the club's identity to Catalan.

Meanwhile Joan Gamper was still working hard to expand the club. He launched a campaign to attract more club members. Eventually it ended up having more than 20,000 members who helped finance for a new stadium known as Camp Nou

FC Barcelona also referred as Futbol Club Barcelona, Barça, is a football club that follows the Catalan values and culture passionately which is one of the reasons the history of the club has sometimes been linked with politics.

Things turned political during the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera. The political hardships in the country during 1925 till 1939 started overshadowing the sports world. During this period the Catalan symbols and language were banned so the team had to make many changes to its shield. This led to financial and social problems for FC Barcelona as a lot of members were occupied with bigger problems. The deteriorating political condition led to the Spanish Civil War. By 1938, Catalonia was under occupation thus any regional nationalism was banned.

Though this period was very difficult for the club, the team found its footing by winning different titles between 1940 and 1950. Over the years, the club kept growing wonderfully due to talent and right coaching and that is why today it is one of the best teams in the world today.
