How is Easter celebrated in Costa Brava?
Costa means coast in Spanish and Catalan and Brava means wild. This beautiful coastal region is located in the northeast of Catalonia. This area was officially selected as a tourist destination by the Spanish government in the 1960s. It has breath-taking beaches and beautiful sights where a tourist can enjoy a relaxing holiday.

Next there is the Holy Thursday when the procession of Verges takes place. It is divided into two parts- one part represents the Passion of Christ while the second one is held on midnight. The second part represents the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The dance of death also takes place when people dress up like skeletons and dance in front of Christ.
After Holy Thursday, Good Friday follows. During this day crucifixes are carried in many places such as the Sant Hilari Sacalm, Besalu and Beget-Camprodon. The most famous procession in Costa Brava during the Easter holidays is in Girona. The procession of the Cofradia de Cristo takes place here where people dress up as Roman soldiers and other costumes. Most of these processions are accompanied by parades, demonstrations and dances. Songs like Saeta or Capella are played during the procession.
Another specialty of Easter holiday in Costa Brava is the delicious food. The Catalans have their own brands of pastry for Easter. The holiday would also be incomplete without the traditional Spanish sweet Mona de Pascua, chocolate eggs and yummy fried donuts called Bunuelos. The fried donuts come in many delicious varieties such as Bunuelos de vent (choux puffs), Bunuelos de I'Emporda (donuts that originate from Emporda region) and Bunuelos de crema (cream puffs) .Other traditional dessert includes Torrijas, Pestinos and Tortell des Rams.
