Tomatina 2011

Are you looking for an extraordinary experience in the summer 2011?

Then you should go to Valencia, more precisely to Bunol, the place where the Tomatina festival takes place and in which playing and throwing with tomatoes is allowed and strongly recommended. It is a tradition with thousands of people from all over the world willing to participate in this battle of tomatoes.

The rules are simple: don´t be afraid to get dirty and jump on each other. All you need now is a hotel in Valencia or an apartment in Valencia, a little craziness and a real desire to enjoy and have fun!


tomatinaIn 2009, 45,000 people gathered using 125 tons of tomatoes throwing them at eachother. It is important to note that the tomatoes used to be rotten and were not sellable.

This amazing tradition began in 1945 when the young at that time found themselves at the center of the village of Buñol. People started throwing tomatoes after a man which caused a huge riot afterwards.

This year's Tomatina 2011will take place on the 31st of August, so do not hesitate to participate and meet the basic safety rules, namely use prohibited bottles, dangerous objects, the tomatoes must be crushed before being thrown and the battle must be stopped when the bell is rung after the second time.

How to get to Tomatina 2011

Bunol is a town and municipality in the province of Valencia, Spain and is situated approximately 38 km west of the provincial and autonomous community capital city, Valencia.

The majority of people travelling to the Tomatina festival stay in Valencia and make the trip to Bunol for the day of the tomato battle.

tomatina bus.jpgThere are various options to reach Buñol from Valencia city. One possibility could be, to rent a car. Another option would be to take the train to Buñol.

You also could take the bus in Valencia, to Buñol. The bus leaves from "Estación del Norte", the central train station in Valencia at 08.30 hour on Wednesday the 31st of August 2011. Then the bus will return to Valencia (from the football field in Buñol) at 15.00 hour. The price of this bus ticket is €30,-. The ticket for the bus, you need to book online.

Terra Mitica -a special park at the coast of Alicante

Benicassim Festival 2011 is a 4-day festival of music taking place in Benicassim on the east coast of Spain between Valencia and Barcelona. Benicassim 2011 takes place the weekend of July 14 to July 17, 2011.

By car
Take the motorway AP-7 until Castellon 12 km north of Barcelona and then take the exit to the highway N-340.

By plane
The two nearest airports are: the airport of Valencia and Reus. You will then take the bus or train to get to Benicassim.

By train
From the major cities in Spain, you can take the RENFE train to Benicassim.

By bus
You can take the bus from the capital cities and major European cities to Barcelona, Valencia and Alicante with Eurolines, Alsa, Starbus or National Express.

From the major cities in Spain, you should take a bus to Castellón, located 14 km from Benicassim.

Finally, you can take a bus from Castellon to Benicasim Autos Mediterraneo.
