The holiday destinations Cadaques and Figueres

Cadaques is perhaps one of the most charming cities for a Costa Brava holiday. This gorgeous coastal town was once a sleepy catalan fishing village, and even today has a year-round population of just 2,612 people. The city has grown over the decades to become a major tourist destination, particularly for those looking for a Costa Brava accommodation close to Barcelona. In addition to providing tourists with a gorgeous destination for sun and surf on the beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean Sea, Cadaques is also known for its rich Cadaques1.jpgculture including a vibrant art and music community. Over the years, the area has attracted such renowned artists as Mei Fren. You can view Fren's famous charcoal pieces in a museum in Cadaques. Cadaques was also the notable residence of Salvador Dali, who often hosted such famed artists as Pablo Picasso, Bunuel, and Lorca at his house. The area also also has been home to other artists such as Joan Miró, Marcel Duchamp, Antoni Pitxot, Henri-François Rey, Melina Mercouri and Maurice Boitel.

Visitors to Cadaques will also want to spend time exploring the traveling outdoor market that visits the area on Mondays. This traveling market includes produce, arts and crafts by local artisans, and more, proving to be worthwhile for locals and tourists alike to visit.

Equally as charming is the small village of Figueres, the capital of the Alt Emporda district. This town is the birthplace of Salvador Dali, as well as the home of the Teatre Museu Gala Salvador Dali. This expansive museum was designed by Dali and includes many of Dali's more notable pieces. Figueres also plays a role in history as the birthplace of the inventor of the first machine powered submarine, Narcis Monturiol Estarriol. Music buffs will enjoy visiting the area of the birthplace of Monica Naranjo, one of the best selling Spanish singers of the last two decades.

The architecture inside the city is equally as impressive, including notably the beautiful town church tower.

Whether you are searching for Costa Brava accommodations in Cadaques, Figueres, or someplace ideally situated between the two cities, you can easily find Costa Brava holiday homes along the whole coast.
