Idyll and contemplation at Montserrat
The Santa Maria de Montserrat monastery is idyllically situated at the top of the same name mountain, in the heart of Catalonia. This very day the monastery shines in its medieval charm. Today approximately 80 monks live behind the monastery walls.
The principal reason for going on a pilgrimage is the visit of "La Moreneta", the virgin of Montserrat, a Romanesque sculpture in wood from the late 12th century.
